Press Release: Brighter, Clearer, Finer TVs on the horizon

AU Optronics Corp., one of the world's largest manufacturers of TFT-LCD modules, announces the production availability of it's first 20.1-inch TFT LCD module for television and public information display applications.

This new panel offers a full colour display of up to 16.7 million colours with a resolution of 800x600 (SVGA), high contrast ration of 500:1 and fast response time of 16 ms making it ideal for display of television and other video format images.

The luminance of 500CD/m2 combined with it's high contrast make it suitable for use in areas where the ambient light levels might washout lower specification products currently in the market.

A 23mm thin profile of this LCD helps the design engineer produce the flatest of finished products for it's overall size brightness.

Extensive spending on research and development backs AU's plans to develop a 32-inch TFT LCD module in the future for these applications. This same commitment to producing some of the worlds finest display products extends across all sizes from 1.5 inch through to 50 inch Plasma.

The company markets its TFT-LCDs through three business units, including Desktop Display Applications, Mobile Display Applications, and Audio Video Display Applications. The company's net sales in Q1 2002 were NT$19,700 million. The company's shipments of large-size TFT-LCD panels were 2160 K units in Q1 2002, compared to 664 K units in Q2 2001.
